University Services
In January 2020, many Universities unknowingly delivered their last ‘normal’ examination period.
A core University function, historically paper-based and often centralised, was disrupted unprecedentedly by a global pandemic, which practically eliminated all traditional delivery methods and frameworks established for decades.
Now, six years later, many are experiencing fragmented student assessment processes, discrepancies in operational skills and knowledge that leave teams overstretched, making the University vulnerable to risks within an assessment system that is both inefficient and unsustainable.
While this sector-wide issue is relatively new and emerging, it poses significant regulatory and reputational risks. Assessments and awards functions are under increasing pressure and scrutiny to design and deliver robust, fail-safe assessments.
With such variety of assessment approaches, and often decentralisation of previously centralised assessment functions, Examinations, Assessments and Awards leadership are often lacking experience, knowledge, confidence, support and bandwidth required to deliver service or even institution-wide change.
That’s where I come in.
Director-level personnel within these areas hold operational responsibility, but are rarely assessment operations subject matter experts, and so process review is often reliant on input and steer from operational leadership, who, for much of the year, are on the delivery ‘treadmill’.
Change projects can feel challenging, counterproductive, and disruptive during peak activity periods, leaving frustrations about lack of progress.
You need someone with senior decision-making experience, who has walked similar paths to those you are seeking, who can do the heavy lifting for your Exams and Assessments teams, allowing them to stay on top of their BAU activity alongside change.
Someone who can listen to the institution’s aspirations, observe the current position, and, using lived and learned experience, begin mapping and facilitating carefully considered steps towards long-term, sustainable action.
How do I operate?
I can start with a diagnostic of your assessment operations to identify risks and opportunities.
I think outside the box, ask ALL the questions, and don’t settle for “but we’ve always done it like this”
You can then decide whether your organisation wishes to engage with me longer-term to help with ongoing support and implementation.
